DNA test changes relationships

Happily, the human genome -knowledge of our DNA- is not patented. So it is available as open content to all of us, and no additional license fees have to be paid whenever we want to do a DNA test. And it is a great gift of science to human kind that age old female secrets - 10% to 20% of children are from a different biological father than told - can be revealed at will. This is changing the behavior of men and women alike. And children have more means to find out who their real biological father is, both important for forming one's psychological identity and for understanding genetically inherited medical risks.

Last Monday, we learned that the biological relationship with one of the family members was absent (not direct), thanks to the easy access to anonymous DNA testing. Of course, this truth shook the very foundations of some relationships as it is always about love, life and trust. At the other hand: Truth Heals. It is in most cases better to found one's identity on hard facts than on vague and possibly manipulative stories.
