Unlocked racks in hosting center becomes political drama

There is a conflict between openness and security. We were alarmed that in our hosting center at Tele2 a visitor - our visitor? - made a video recording of governmental servers (UWV) and data tapes, that were not well protected and locked up. The video was placed on YouTube, discussed in IDG e-zine Webwereld and ISPam, and next became the subject of a heated parliamentary debate with the responsible minister.

The involved persons are clearly in violation of terms & conditions of hoster Tele2, and are denied access immediately. It is also not in the interest of our clients that potential hardware issues can not be supported because of this drama. At the other hand, Tele2 is not doing a good job and is negligent.

Individuals are often not very well aware of the power that the internet has given them to publish explosive materials. And not aware of the consequences for their clients and eventually themselves. These are interesting times!
